Downtown Water & Sewer project begins

As our community continues to grow and evolve, we’re thrilled to announce some much-needed infrastructure updates for Franklin Street and beyond. While construction can bring temporary inconveniences, these improvements will pave the way for a safer, more accessible, and vibrant downtown experience. We’re incredibly thankful for your patience and support as we move forward with these vital upgrades.

What to Expect During Construction

🔹 Daytime Street Closures

To speed up the construction process, Franklin Street will be closed to thru-traffic during the day. However, crews on-site will be available to direct delivery trucks and other essential traffic as needed. Streets will typically be reopened at night to allow for better access.

🔹 Access & Parking

Need to access sidewalks or visit your favorite shops? Public parking is available at the Franklin Street Parking Lot, providing easy access to local businesses and sidewalks. We’re committed to ensuring downtown remains accessible for residents, visitors, and merchants alike.

🔹 Temporary Road Patches

During the winter months, street cuts will be patched with gravel since asphalt plants are typically closed. These temporary measures ensure roads remain safe and passable until asphalt becomes available in the spring.

🔹 Sidewalk Repairs

Sidewalk cuts will be addressed as quickly as possible to minimize disruptions for pedestrians. Ensuring safe walkability is a top priority.

🔹 Delayed Full Restoration

Full restoration of Franklin Street will be aligned with the Franklin Street Streetscape Project, a significant undertaking that will further enhance the area’s appearance and functionality. We’ll provide more details about this exciting project in the coming months.

🔹 Water Service Impact

While no major water outages are expected, there will be a one-time 1-2 hour outage to allow for meter reconnection. The City will provide at least 48 hours’ notice and schedule the outage to minimize the impact on property owners.

🔹 On-Site Support

A Public Works inspector will be on-site daily to ensure the project stays on track and to assist property owners with any questions or concerns. If you have any issues, help is just a call away!

Need Assistance or Have Questions? We’re here to help! If you have any concerns about the project’s impact on your property, please contact the Public Works Department at 336-786-3580. An inspector will be available on-site every day to address your questions and offer guidance.

Looking Ahead

While construction may present some short-term challenges, the long-term benefits will be well worth it. The upcoming Franklin Street Streetscape Project will transform the area into a more beautiful, functional, and pedestrian-friendly destination for everyone to enjoy. These updates will support the continued revitalization of our downtown, making it a more vibrant place to live, work, and visit.

We’re incredibly grateful for your patience, understanding, and excitement as we embark on these essential improvements. Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected community. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses, and thank you for being part of this transformative journey.
